What separates the Downunder Horsemanship Method from others is Clinton’s unique approach to teaching horse owners how to effectively communicate with their horses. As you progress through the levels, you’ll notice that every lesson is presented in a step-by-step system called the Eight Steps to Success. Each exercise is laid out in the easiest, simplest way to understand, ensuring that you’ll know exactly what steps to take and what you can expect your horse to do when teaching a given exercise.
1. Goal: Using Mindy, his Australian Quarter Horse mare, Clinton shows how each exercise is supposed to look. If you have a clear picture of what you’re looking for, you will be better able to help your horse understand what to do.
2. Why: Clinton explains why each exercise is an important step in the Method. If you understand why it’s important, you will be more likely to practice it and be thorough with each step.
3. Teaching Stage: Clinton shows you how to teach the exercise to a horse that has never learned it. For some exercises, he brings in a second horse that will respond in a different way than the first to give you an idea of how to handle horses with opposite personalities.
4. Handler/Rider Mistakes: In this section, Clinton describes all the mistakes he sees people making when teaching the exercise to their horses. If you know what NOT to do, you will save yourself a lot of frustration.
5. Horse Problems: Here Clinton lists all the most common problems that horses will have when learning these exercises, and how to fix them and/or avoid them. Horses don’t learn perfectly; the key is to know what to do when the horse doesn’t give you the right response.
6. Troubleshooting: Sometimes you think you’ve done everything right and the horse still isn’t getting it. This section will give you advice on what to do when you feel like you’re out of options.
7. Success Tips: In this section, Clinton gives you extra advice that he has found will make the exercise go a little smoother.
8. Practical Purpose: The more you can give your horse a purpose to what you’re asking him to do, the happier he will be. This section will give you ideas of how to use the exercise during your everyday routine and how to spice it up to keep it interesting for your horse.
The series follows the progression of a Quarter Horse gelding named Bow. When Bow stepped off the trailer and onto the Downunder Horsemanship Ranch, he brought with him typical issues horse owners face each day. “He was terribly trained and extremely spooky,” Clinton says. “When he arrived, I acted as if he was a 2-year-old colt that I got in for training and started him at the very beginning of my Method.” The camera follows Bow’s progression from an overly reactive hot-blooded horse to a willing and obedient partner.
The DVDs also feature a student lesson at the end of each exercise. When you first start applying the Method with your horse, it can sometimes be frustrating when both you and the horse are trying to figure out what to do, especially if you’re new to using the training tools. The student lessons will give you ideas about how to practice your rhythm, timing and coordination without the horse. The use of improved cameras and technology allow viewers to get a bird’s eye view of the exercises so that they feel as if they’re in the saddle with Clinton, all of which makes these High Definition DVDs the most comprehensive training tool you’ll ever use.
Arena Mates
The series comes complete with pocket-sized training guides that follow the exercises presented in the DVDs. The Arena Mates are sealed with a protective cover so that you can take them to the barn to use as an easy-to-follow reference when training your horse. Each of the 15 Arena Mate booklets features detailed steps from roundpenning exercises to riding with confidence maneuvers. “For years people have been begging for reference guides they could take to the arena with them so they wouldn’t forget the steps to the exercises,” Clinton says. “Our Arena Mates not only detail each exercise, but they also list ways to avoid common handler and horse mistakes and allow you to track your horse’s training progress.” Colored photographs accompany each exercise, highlighting the finer points of the lessons.
Philosophy Book
Illustrated with full color photos, this 100 page book explains the philosophy behind Clinton’s Method. Knowing exactly why your horse behaves the way that he does is the first step to becoming a true horseman. “My job is to help you to understand my Method, which in turn will help you better understand your horse. Your job is to become the best horseman you can be. To do that you must understand the fundamentals of horse training, which starts with learning the basics and earning your horse’s respect,” Clinton says.

Though I was already very familiar with Downunder Horsemanship method, I have increased my knowledge and understanding a great deal by watching the dvds and using the arena mates. Every possible scenario is addressed so that each time I have thought of a new question, its just a matter of minutes before it is answered.
The video is extremely well-filmed so that you can see exactly what is being taught. The exercises are broken up into chapters so you can quickly find what you are looking for.
The arena mates are so detailed that you can easily use them to refer back to what you have already learned, or if you are in a hurry you can review them before you watch the video and know that you arent going to miss a step.
I have gotten immediate improvement from myself and my horse by using this new kit. I highly recommend it for anyone just starting out with Downunder Horsemanship and for anyone who wants to refine their skills and get 100% results.

The new Fundamentals Package arrived on Monday I may or may not have squealed like a little girl when I saw it sitting on the post next to the mailbox
Thank you so much for the time and effort that you continue to put into yourself, your teaching and putting all that knowledge into fantastic formats for us to have in our homes to use as a learning tool, to improve our Horsemanship and our horses.
You know its been a xxxx long journey from picking up a old VHS called "Feel the Difference" in Toowoomba and watching you ya string bean talking about leads Mate thats something you use to "lead" and tie the horse.... Isnt it??? To the Horseman I am today, Achieving far higher levels of maneuvers and feel than I ever dreamed possible 7 years ago, and even riding reasonably confidently with a disease that affects my balance.
You and your open hearted teaching have carried me on my own 80% of the way, from learning to gain respect and not just with horses... learning saftey and not relying on my natural instinct of "knowing" the horse is about to do something naughty and teaching me also to dig deep and keep trying, inspiring quotes, yarns and sayings, all the encouragement there to not give up, but say well theres plenty of people worse off living their dreams, this can be done!
I highly recommend this new format of your method to anyone. It will not disappoint, there is from what I can see no detail left out, no stone unturned.

| First, let me say that I think the packaging is great never mind the fact that green is my favorite color. The DVDs and arena mates are arranged and packaged very conveniently. It is very easy to select the exact DVD you are looking for.
One of my original problems with the programs, was that I wasnt sure where to start..now I dont have to worry since they program starts at the very beginning and progresses past the very basics to riding …
…The Arena Mates are fantastic. I especially like the step by step instructions that are a reinforcerment of the DVDs. … Also, in the books he covers the handler and horse problems again. The Arena Mates will be invaluable to me when I am working outside with the horse…One of the small things that impressed me was the thought that went into the books and the small pocket at the back of the cover. That pocket allows you to tuck in the back pages so you dont have to have a bookmark that may fall out. You can very quickly save the page you are working on with just a flick of the cover. Thanks for that detail….I would highly recommend this Fundamentals package to anyone wanting to learn the basics of Clintons program. It is concise, easy to understand and very comprehensive with its teaching tools. Now, if my weather would just cooperate, I am very anxious to get back to my fat lazy horse so I can transform him into the horse I will love to ride.I will be in Las Vegas for the Tourcation and cant wait to see Clinton live again. I was anxiously awaiting the Fundamental Kit like a child waiting on a new toy.
It is amazing that although I felt I had learned so much from Clinton Anderson he still finds a way to teach new
methods on working with your horse and reinforce what I have already learned.
Clintons methods have given me the confidence that I was unableto find with any other trainer. His methods
have been so easy to follow and understand that in a year and a half I went from never owning or dealing
with a horse to training horses for the South Florida SPCA.
Because Clinton knows how to listen to his customers and genuinely cares about the outcome of his teachings the
Arena Mate included in this kit makes it incredibly easier to practice his methods when you are working with your
horse in the arena or round pen.
With the Fundamentals kit I found that the training steps were put into order, no more trying to guess what

I attended a Shana Terry clinic about one year ago and must say that this fundamentals set reminds me of being at that clinic. | If you thought CAs Method was clear and easy to follow before, you havent seen anything yet! How the information can be presented more clearly is a mystery, YET Clinton managed to do it here. CA has done an EXCELLENT job of listening to the viewers questions to improve the common handler and horse mistakes sections since his last series 6 yrs ago. I honestly cant think of ANY question a person could have that he did not address!
DVD’s - There is 28 hours of Wide Screen, Full HD, NEW footage. The sound is excellent, no need to turn the volume up and down all the time. There are little segments w/ visual examples when needed, notes that pop up at the bottom, and clearly marked segments within each lesson. Mindy is used to show what your goal is for each lesson, then different types of horses are used to show you how the Method can be used with ANY horse.
Arena Mates - At 30-66 pages each ave 46, these 15 little books are full color, made to fit right in a pocket. They have a sturdy cover that is going to protect them from sweat and dirt. At the end of each is a section for notes, perfect for you to keep track of your horses progress as you go.
Is This Really Worth the Hefty Price Tag? In a word, YES!!! This is a HIGH quality product, that will give you years of enjoyment and an insight into horse training that will amaze you. IF you follow the DUH Method as it is intended, the chances of you needing an ambulance trip to the ER for a horse related wreck are going to be GREATLY decreased! IT IS WORTH EVERY PENNY!

| I had thought for years that my horses were well broke and easy to handle but after seeing Clinton on tv and curiously applying some of his methods I was seeing positive results. My horses that had been good were getting much better. I decided I should get serious so I joined the club and bought the new fundamentals kit and it’s great! It’s hard to believe that Clinton’s teaching could be even more complete, in depth, and detailed than what we see on tv but the fundamentals kit covers everything and is so easy to understand. The Arenamates help a lot too as a reference guide out there in the arena. Everything from the packaging to the production, to the instruction is top quality and I love it. | I am a Sales Representative for Downunder Horsemanship and was fortunate enough to be one of the first to get my hands on the new Clinton Anderson Fundamentals package. As promised, the “new and improved” foundation to the Clinton Anderson program is very straight forward and easy to follow. Clinton has really taken all of the guesswork out of teaching my horse and myself really, through the foundation of the Clinton Anderson program. I know what to do and when to do it!
It is very important to understand that Fundamentals is for EVERYONE, including those of us who have ridden, shown, years of lessons/training instruction, and just plain been around horses our entire lives. If you really want to understand where the success of the Downunder Horsemanship program comes from, then Fundamentals is where one needs to start in order to get the most out of Clinton’s Method. Now that I have a better grasp of the beginning ground work and riding, I understand exactly where Clinton’s more advanced ideas are coming from in the RFD television shows and monthly club DVDs. Redundancy is a question that I always get. My answer: I certainly hope so! If some of the Fundamentals exercises are redundant for me, then this tells me I have been doing a lot of things right over the years. This is confidence building and motivating, but allows me to fill the gaps and fine tune my training. I really can’t put a price on clarification and understanding.
The additional laminated sheet that is included is a great quick reference guide that I can look over before I head out to the barn each afternoon. The Arena Mates are great because like many, I was a note taker and carried my notes out to the barn with me. I really like that I can reference my Arena Mates where ever I go when I have an extra few minutes, with or without my horses. The chapters of each DVD are very easy to sort through to find answers to my specific questions. The quality of the filming is a much higher quality than previous series and the camera angle is even different, which literally gives me the whole picture.
The new Clinton Anderson Fundamentals was a MUST HAVE investment in my resource library. As I work with different horses, I will be able to go back to the basics and troubleshoot whenever I feel the need to do so. I highly recommend Fundamentals to anyone that enjoys working with their horses using the Clinton Anderson Method or that is just plain confused about horse behavior in general!

I have the Gaining Respect series 1-3 and Riding with Confidence Series 1-3, and I thought that those we good until I got the Fundamental Series and then I was really blown away!! Clinton presents the material to you in such an easy format to understand that anyone can follow it! And the arena mates are Clinton’s best idea EVER!! I use to always struggle after watching the DVD’s and retaining the information when I would go out to work with my horse, but the arena mates have solved that problem! | I was in the same situation that a lot of others were in when the fundamentals series was released. I owned all three of the Gaining Respect on the Ground 1,2, & 3, as well as round penning and Riding with Confidence 1,2, & 3 so as you can imagine I was a little nervous about spending more money for DVD’s that I already had. I finally decided to give the new series a try after some convincing from Jim in the sales department. He assured me of the quality and in depth information that really sets the fundamental series apart from any other training series on the market today. I have never been so pleased with a purchase in all of my life. Clinton goes into such great detail in the new series and highlights the 8 steps to success, leaving no questions unanswered. The clarity of the footage is phenomenal! I didn’t realize how much Clinton has perfected his method until I started going through my new kit. The arena mates are such a help to me as well. Even though I thought I knew Clinton’s method pretty good, I would always have to try to remember each step in order when I got to the arena. Now with the arena mates all the guessing is gone, each book follows the corresponding DVD to the “T”. | As a converted skeptic I gladly tell you that every word of Mr. Andersons Fundamentals infomercial is true. And the infomercial is just like the set: simple and straightforward.
This set has class, class, class. Class in the carrying case, class in all the DVDs, and class in the Arena Mates.
If you like DUH and CA, if youve enjoyed and/or tried any part of his training techniques, this set will awe and amaze you.
One of my favorite special little thoughtful touches is that the Arena Mates are drilled in the lower left corner. You can put it on a cord to hang around your neck and when you lift it to view, its right side up! Those of us who dress "improperly" to work our horses appreciate this excellent way to keep Arena Mates on hand even if we dont have pockets.

| I am truely impressed with the fundamenals series. I have used natural horsemenship for over 25 years and taught other people as well as trained horses for trail,ranch,feedlot,barrelracing, and reined cowhorse. I still had holes in what I was doing and this program has open my eyes to what I was missing. AT the same time it is so detailed and well laidout that my 13 year old daughter has been able to understand what to do and has been able increase her confidence and horsemanship skill. This program has helped my whole family improve our horsemanship skills to make riding safer and more fun for us and the horse. |

| Clinton has done it again! This dvd set is the best I have seen on the market. The video it self is in so much detail, from every thing to rider mistakes to horse mistakes. I found the way Clintons explains what he is doing is easier to understand. He makes sure you have every thing in your head and know what to do. The arena mates that come with the kit is the smartest idea yet. Some times I forget a few of the things I saw in the video and need to recheck my self, but I don’t want to have to run inside, replay the video and then run back out. The little booklets are just like the dvd but in a small handy tool you can take with you any where. Thanks Clinton for coming up with such a great kit. |

| This is a great, complete package! Someone who was not familiar with DUH methods would have all they need for a great start.
DUH has given me the best working horses I have ever had and this would have been a great place to start instead of floundering around other peoples methods first. It is clear, consice and as usual more than I expected. It was a great review and I found some holes in my process that I thought was correct .
I took my youngest back to the start and filled in what I had forgotten since I took my 1st horse through the method. |

Clinton eloquently gives structure to those things that somewhere inside I knew but couldn’t quite exercise effectively on my own. Anyone who has a passion for horses can observe the principles which Clinton gives that utterance. The big picture that was too much to grasp before is broken into simple bits. Every day holds an “aha” moment as I work step by step through the DVD’s. The series through it’s simplicity keeps me from feeling overwhelmed at the start while simultaneously imparting an understanding that builds confidence through it’s depth. Not once in the series did I wonder “how, why or what if.” Nor did I find myself looking at my horse wondering what to do, at least not for any longer than it took to reach in my pocket for the guide and remind myself what I forgot that Clinton made unmistakably clear on the DVD in the first place. Almost suddenly I”m no longer standing in the front row trying to figure out what’s going on but rather one of the quiet one on the side wondering when those clowns are going to figure out what their doing wrong. | As with all of Clintons DVD series, this set is absolutely great! Who ever thought of the Arena Mates definitely had the right idea. I cant tell you how many times I had handwritten notes in the back of my jean pockets in the past. I always bring these with me just to review, to make sure Im being clear and consise as Im now playing around with some of the other horses at the barn who all have their own personalities. The Philosophy book is just an added bonus too. Its so nice to have everything consolidated into one large kit now. Well worth the investment and being a NWC member is one of the best things I couldve done for my horse and I. I now have a green 4 year old who had never even been ridden before so I was determined to start Clintons Method with her ASAP. I cant express enough appreciation to the Method every time I go out to catch my horse in turnout and she actually stops eating her hay, turns and faces me with two eyes. Sometimes she walks all the way down to me, other times she only takes a few steps toward me, but the giving me two eyes so early into her training just motivates me all the more to continue and advance through the program. | I first saw this new series when I was at Ian Franciss for a lesson. I had just finished purchasing the old series, so I thought the new ones couldnt be much differnent. Any way on further thought, I went and bought the new Fund. series and WOW, WOW,WOW!!!!!!!!! My horsemanship has gone from a very lazy C+ to at least a B+ or an A. SO thank you soooo much, in 10 years Clinton, your dvds are just getting better and better. Thanks for all the motivation and encouragement, with the pocket books it really feels like you are in the arena with me!!!! Cheers, I now feel like I have a completely different horse!!! |

Clinton has matured in presentation and his explanations are the best and most complete I have ever experienced.
