Dear Clinton:
My name is Karlee and I had my 13th birthday on June 3rd. My Grandma, her 3 friends, and I recently attended your clinic in St. Paul, MN, on June 2nd & 3rd of this year. I just want to let you know how much I learned from you, and to THANK YOU again for taking the time to autograph my hat!
Here is my story:
About 10 days before my 9th birthday, my Grandma & Grandpa bought me a retired grade roping horse! We called him JP (Just Perfect) from his JP brand on his left hip!! My Grandparents breed and raise grulla Quarter Horses, so JP stayed with them. He was the most broke horse I had ever seen “except that is for his taking off with me a couple of times when he got scared.” But I wasn’t really that into your shows and I hadn’t really heard of you. So JP never got a chance to get over that.
I only had him for about a year and a half when tragically one day while I was at school -- JP severely colicked. I got to come and say my good-byes -- the whole time he was whinnying. Soon after I left, they had to put him down. So the next day I was feeling so incredibly bad and my Grandma said that I needed another horse to make it better. So I went out and picked a 2 year old filly (Casino Magic Token) out of the herd and started breaking her myself! In my opinion Casino was practically born “broke!” However, she still needed lots of training. I was 10 at the time and with Grandma’s help from watching your tapes -- I started using your methods.
I missed JP terribly, but my family says that when he was whinnying so much before he died -- he was telling Casino to take care of me and for me to be a “good girl!”
Casino and I were doing absolutely GREAT!!! She is one of the best horses on the trail in our group! Then on the weekend of my birthday (June 2nd & 3rd) -- we went to your clinic and I learned so much more!! The main thing I learned and am working on is “respect.” I couldn’t believe the change in Casino’s behavior after the lunging, backing, and staying out of my “hoola hoop” space. I just wanted to say “THANK YOU!!!” Now my 4 yr. old filly, Casino, and me (13) are (in my eyes) one of the most confident pairs on the trail. I know we have a long way to go, but one day (MY GOAL) is for us to turn out like you and “Mindy!!”
